Dior Couture Spring 2011

Paris, January 24, 2011, John Galliano presents a beautifully stunning Christian Dior couture show. The show, a salute to Rene Gruau, who's illustrative work for Christian Dior in the 40's and 50's created the houses most iconic imagery, gave Galliano the opportunity to indulge his passion for true haute couture. Here are a couple of my favourite designs, I find Galliano's work completely mesmerizing, a couple of key details from the show are:
-Graphite smears, pencil strokes and scribbles.
-Flared skirts from corseted waists, inspired by the 'New Look'.
-Dropped pencil skirts to below the knee.
-The interplay of light and shade, dark pink contrasting with pale pink, embroidery only being used on one side of the fabric so it cast a subtle shadow.
-Ostrich feathers.

And my favourite:-

-Layers and layers of tulle.

All in all the show held everything your imagination could transpire, extravagance, spontaneity and sheer beauty.
